Referee Guide

General Club Requirements

  • Must be certified!
  • Must have the up to date uniforms!
  • Try and stay on schedule
  • Please let us know if you are not able to make a game commitment ASAP in advance
  • There will be cold weekends so bring clothes according to the weather (you are welcome to pack a bag with hats, gloves, and jackets to leave in the shed during the season)
  • Wear cleats or neutral color shoes


On game day be at the fields no later than 15 minutes before kickoff

  • Check goals
  • Put out corner red flags (required for U10, U12, and travel games)
  • Walk the fields (make sure there are no issues with the field of play)


Please try and leave the shed how you find it!

  • Put balls in the bags
  • Clean up your trash
  • Put lawn chairs away


Parents will express anger, remember to the following to help avoid:

  • Stay with the play which requires running!
  • Be authoritative, this is your job, don't let people sway your calls
  • Parents are now required to site on opposite sides of the teams starting at U8.

  • 3v3
  • Allowed to wear cleats or tennis shoes
  • They switch directions at halftime
  • 1 coach per team allowed on the field
  • Watch pushing and shoving
  • Ignore handballs unless the kids pick up the ball
  • Blow you whistle, the little ones only stop if they hear it

  • Can sub at any stop of play
  • Work with the kids on correct throws
  • All plays on the ball must be done on their feet
  • Call handballs
  • 1 coach per team allowed on the field
  • No heading the ball
  • Blow you whistle, the little ones only stop if they hear it

  • 4v4
  • Can sub at any stop of play
  • All plays made on the players feet
  • Sweepers can play as a defender but must come up to almost the halfway point if the ball is in the opposite side of the field
  • Teach correct throws, they need to know how to do it correctly
  • No heading the ball
  • No coaches on the field during play (unless you ask them to come onto the field)
  • Blow you whistle, the little ones only stop if they hear it

  • Subs can be made at any stoppage
  • Build out line (Once the goalie possesses the ball, all players from the opposing team must move behind the build out line. If the goalkeeper does not give adequate time for the opposing team to retrieve behind the build out line or places the ball on the ground it is a live ball.
  • Improper throws must be called
  • No heading the ball
  • All plays are made on the players feet
  • Blow you whistle, the little ones only stop if they hear it
